VERTICAL ROOT FRACTURE

40 yrs Old female patient. Chief complaint- Pain and Palatal abscess in relation to upper left 2nd bi cuspid tooth. Firm tooth. History- R.C treated (3 years back) and restored with post core and a crown .
Referred for re RCT. As soon as I saw that parallel post in Radiograph, I guessed about vertical fracture of the root and advised her to go for extraction. This is a classic example, how removing more tooth structure to prepare a post hole will weeken the root which may end up in vertical fracture. It's a fact. Regards.

Palatal swelling
Decent RCT

Parallel metal post
Beautiful vertical fracture
